The sunniest days & the whitest sand
Queensland might market themselves as the Sunshine State but Perth has more sunny days than in any other Australian capital city. It also has the beach with the whitest sand in Australia and yes, we do go there!
It’s a super laid-back place so no wonder the people in Perth are so relaxed and friendly. Perth is a picture-perfect city and also features one of the biggest city parks in the world. Kings Park is even bigger than Central Park in New York!
The weather is sublime and the beaches are ridiculously beautiful. When it’s time to party you’ll find a vibrant city and nightlife to enjoy. Sandgropers (that’s what Perth locals are affectionately known as) love a Sunday session. That is, having a few drinks with your mates at the pub on a Sunday afternoon. The Cot or Cottesloe Hotel located right on iconic Cottesloe Beach is the spot to be, although Fremantle has some cool spots too!
No trip to ‘Freo’, as the locals call it, is complete without a beer at the famous Little Creatures Brewery and the creepy Fremantle Prison is pretty cool, too. If you can time your day here on a Saturday or Sunday even better, as the weekend markets are the heartbeat of Fremantle, combining art and photography with tie-dyed T-shirts, tasselled hammocks and a buskers’ corner.
Rottnest Island is worth it just for the selfie with the cheeky little quokkas but there is a lot more on offer. Just a one-hour ferry ride takes you there where you hire a bike and choose one of more than 60 beaches, snorkel stunning coral reefs and have a beer at the iconic Rottnest Hotel. Yes, West Australians do love a drink.
A lot is going on in Perth and it’s a great place to chill for a while so make sure you leave enough time at the start or end of your tour to sit back, relax and enjoy the sunshine! From Perth, you can explore the stunning south-west of Western Australia which is famed for its beaches, forest, coastline and wine.
