Sugarloaf Rock in Dunsborough Western Australia

Discover Dunsborough

The beach side town of Dunsborough is just two and a half hour’s drive south of Perth. Here, you are right on the door step of the Margaret River region’s wineries and attractions. It is a popular holiday spot for West Australians and international tourists because of its incredible beaches, surrounding national parks, boutique shopping, galleries and studios and friendly locals. It also has arguably the best bakery “down south” where grabbing a sausage roll and sauce to cure the morning hangover is a must. At night there is a great vibe. Locals and visitors head out to enjoy the many brew houses, wine bars and pubs that feature some great local artists playing tunes.

While the coastline just 15 minutes south features some of the best surf breaks on the planet, the beaches of Dunsborough are protected from the Indian Ocean as it sits on Georgraphe Bay. The ocean here is turquoise and generally as flat as a pancake! Meelup Beach and Eagle Bay are our favourite beaches in Dunsborough and when you get there you will see why. Words don’t do them justice.

Take a drive just 13 km from Dunsborough and you will find Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park, which is home to Dunsborough’s working lighthouse, Cape Naturaliste. It’s also the starting point of the Cape to Cape Track. Sugarloaf Rock is another highlight of the park as its impressive formation dominates the coastline, near Cape Naturaliste.

The area has a history rich in Indigenous culture and is considered one of the oldest continually occupied habitats in the world, with a history dating back approximately 50,000 years. Koomal Dreaming is an incredible cultural experience on offer. Guests have the opportunity to taste native foods, discover bush medicine, and experience traditional fire lighting with Wardandi custodian Josh as he recounts stories of the Dreaming spirits.

Explore the Dunsborough region on our Margaret River Tours from Perth where you see all these incredible highlights and spend the night here, as well as having a personalised two-hour tour at Koomal Dreaming.
